Charging an EV at home is significantly cheaper than refilling a petrol or diesel car. A typical electric car with a 30 kWh battery pack costs around ₹180 to ₹240 for a full 250 km range, which works out to just ₹0.80 to ₹1.10 per kilometer!

1. Slow 3.3 kW AC vs Fast 7.4 kW Wallbox

  • A standard 16A 3.3kW socket takes 8 to 10 hours for a full charge overnight.
  • A 7.4kW AC wallbox charges the battery in 4 to 5 hours but requires a sanctioned load of at least 7 kW.

2. Dedicated EV Tariff vs Domestic Slab Rates

Several states (Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat) offer dedicated EV charging tariffs of ₹4.50 to ₹6.50 per unit with no telescopic slab penalties.
